It started when I received a phone call from my husband, Michael, telling me he had collapsed on the job. It ended ten years later when he died from complications of multiple sclerosis. In between those times, my life, my husband’s life and our marriage transformed. In the midst of his illness, I was diagnosed with cancer. Through allopathic and alternative methods, I was able to heal and continue caring for Michael. My memoir is called Watching for Dragonflies: A Caregiver’s Transformative Journey. The ancient and enduring dragonfly, born of water and at home in flight, symbolized for Michael the time when he was strong and his body felt whole. He never let go of that image, and I carry it with me still.
